Frequently Asked Questions
What is Sports Psychology?
Sports Psychology studies behaviour and performance in sport,
and provides practical techniques to deal with the mental and
emotional aspects of sport.
What is Sports Hypnotherapy?
Sports Hypnotherapy uses hypnosis to enhance many sports psychology
techniques. Together they help sportspeople deal with a variety
of common mental problems in sport, including competition nerves,
overcoming injury, increasing confidence, and improving focus
and performance.
What sort of treatments do you use?
In most cases treatment will include a combination of hypnotherapy
and practical sports psychology exercises related to your particular
needs.
What sort of sports people do you work with?
Anyone is welcome! Whether you're at elite, pro or social level,
or a senior or junior, you're bound to find sports psychology
useful. Quite often there is a specific problem someone wants
to deal with, and that's what we would focus on, but we would
also always look at your whole mental training as a matter of
course to ensure you're mentally ready for whatever challenges
your sport might bring.
Can you help actors/musicians/singers/dancers and other performers?
Absolutely! The demands of the performing arts are similar to
those experienced in sports, and performing artists can benefit
from psychological training in the same way.
What is hypnosis like?
Hypnosis is simply a very deep state of relaxation. In this state
you are less distracted by sounds and interferences around you,
which can make the exercises we do in sports psychology more effective.
You are always in control of what happens, and can come out of
hypnosis whenever you want. Most people are quite surprised how
aware they are of everything while hypnotised, and how different
(but nice!) it is to what they’ve seen on TV and stage shows.
Hypnosis is largely used to support other therapeutical techniques,
and you may not even have hypnotherapy included in your treatment,
though you are of course more than welcome to try it if you wish.
How many sessions will I need?
There is no fixed number of sessions. In most cases there will
be at least two sessions, the first being an initial consultation
designed to gather information about your problem, and to discuss
a treatment plan with you, and the second being the first therapy
session.
Are treatments confidential?
Yes, all information regarding your treatment is confidential.
A Hypno-Psychotherapist registered with the National Register
of Hypnotherapists and Psychotherapists (NRHP) is strictly regulated
in respect of training, conduct and confidentiality.
When is the next Golf Workshop?
Workshops are held according to demand at various times during
the year. If your golf club is interested in hosting a workshop,
please get in touch to discuss it further,
or just register your interest in a future workshop.
What areas do you cover?
Most sessions take place in the centre of Dartford in Kent,
though most of the South East is covered. Sessions are available
in Dartford or on-site at your sports club or other suitable venue
(South East only - if your club is outside this area please get
in touch).
How much does it cost?
The current fee is £45 per session, which is approximately
an hour long. Additional fees may be charged for travel to sports
clubs and other away meetings. Payment is by cheque or cash.
